Australia in Malabar would strengthen the Indo-Pacific Narrative

Research Fellow, Manohar Parrikar IDSA, Dr. Jagannath Panda’s article titled ‘Australia in Malabar would strengthen the Indo-Pacific Narrative’ has been published by the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) at the CSIS, Washington DC.

The piece essentially argues that the inclusion of Australia in Malabar would allow the Quad process to emerge as a coalition of structured maritime partnerships, strengthen threat assessment capabilities, and enhance the maritime roles and missions of the four naval powers – Australia, Japan, India, and the United States. In other words, an expanded Malabar would point to the emergence of a structured maritime coalition in the Indo-Pacific, amounting to an emergent defense maritime architecture vis-à-vis a revisionist China.
