Maldivian Delegation Interacts with IDSA Scholars

A seven-member delegation from Maldives interacted with IDSA scholars and discussed ‘Developments in Maldives’ at IDSA on August 13, 2018. The other topic discussed by them included attacks on media/bloggers; state control over the parliament, judiciary, independent institutions, including the Election Commission and the media; updates regarding elections, including trends from the islands and developments within the political opposition; human rights violations and state impunity; and radicalization and impact on the region.

The delegation comprised Ms Shahindha Ismail -Director, Maldivian Democracy Network and Human Rights Activist; Mr Ahmed Adam -UN Advocacy Senior Program Officer, Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development; Mr Mohamed Hameed – Former Head of the Intelligence Department, Maldives Police; Mr Nazim Sattar – Human Rights Lawyer; Ms Afnan Latheef -Project Coordinator with MDN and active in youth-led projects, CVE and feminist movements; Mr Junaid Mohamed – Senior Journalist with the Maldives Independent; and Mr Mushfique Mohamed -Former Prosecutor.
